Monday Marketing Minute

The trick of being in a personal brand is that there’s a big difference between being known, being known for something, and also being able to turn that into business.I’ve got a recognizable personal brand. It took years to build it. From that, it took years to figure out how best to make business from it. Because just being known doesn’t transform instantly into business.

Your first takeaway: make sure you’re progressing from being known into being known for something you’ve done, and then work at finding a way to build a business from that. This is really good information…I mean really good! I know this better than anyone, but it took a while to sink in. Let me tell you a story about my brands…yes brands! Rebecca E. Parsons and Cre8Tiva!

Having a split personality in business can be a difficult thing to manage. How did I learn this. A few years ago I started my fun creative blog-Cre8Tiva. I spent several years interacting with other artful bloggers under this brand name…the result is that Cre8Tiva is very well branded…she owns over 1000 pages of Google. Rebecca E. Parsons owns about 10 pages and Rebecca Parsons (me) shares about 20 pages with Dr. Rebecca Parsons of ThoughtWorks. When you throw in Cre8Tive Compass and Faux Is Me, well you see how fractured a brand can get!!!

The operative advice for me (and, hopefully, you) is: make sure you’re progressing from being known into being known for something you’ve done, and then work at finding a way to build a business from that.

So I am doing some brand work at the moment. Really deciding how to capitalize on Search Engine giant Cre8Tiva’s fame. What are your thoughts? Please share them with me below…
