DIY Project My Studio Makeover~Feeling Groovy Part 3

written by Rebecca E. Parsons

The studio is beginning to take shape now…I am so excited to share this next part…decorative painting with stencils…with you!!!

I {HEART} Glidden’s Brilliance Collection 2-in-1 paint and primer from Walmart. I chose Sunbeam and  . See Part 2~Painting the Walls for details. and Part 1~Choosing the Colors the inspiration and color choices with #GliddenTesters.

Decorative Painting with Stencils

When I decided on the theme for my studio ~ Feeling Groovy ~ I knew I wanted a sophisticated retro 60s look and feel with plenty of space to hang and display my special artworks. So this room is really a studio/gallery space.

I decided I would do some large flowers (aka Dating Game)…but when I came across these stencils from Cutting Edge Stencils, I knew it was going paisley…man….Groovy to the max!!!

Vintage Paisley Stencil

here is a video showing you the correct way to Roller Stencil:

The Decorative Painting Process

I used…

Stencil Vintage Paisley from Cutting Edge Stencils 3 sizes
Glidden’s Brilliance Collection – 5 colors
Smooth dense foam roller
Roller tray
Newspaper
Blue Painter’s Tape

The most important thing to remember when roller stenciling is to remove most of the paint from the roller by rolling it over a newspaper several times before you go to the wall.

Then carefully roll over the stencil…do not apply heavy pressure or you will have loads of run-unders to fix…and that is a pain!!! Just go slowly…it is better to do two coats than to have a run-under….trust me!

I do some fancy stenciling where I wrap the corner…you must stencil one wall and move the stencil carefully to the other surface making sure you match the stencil perfectly…or it looks icky!!!

I also make sure to overlap an outlet plug for added beauty…first remove the outlet cover…  stencil the wall…replace the outlet cover and match the areas perfectly then stencil the cover.

here is the wall in progress…

and completed…

Stay tuned for the decorative painting in Part 4~The BIG Reveal…

This project has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Glidden Testers/Paint and collectivebias. All opinions are my own. #gliddentesters
