Cooking with Gordon Ramsay…Chef’s Knife from Kmart w/ Sliders #cBias

written by Rebecca E. Parsons

I have been challenged to create one of Gordon Ramsay’s delicious creations. It was an excuse to buy a GR Chef’s knife!!! Who needs an excuse? The Gordon Ramsay Everyday line, launched yesterday (9/18/11) at your local Kmart and online, is brilliant! I was first in line for my new knife (see it in action below). Peek at his 50+ kitchen items here.

You might remember that I was a brand ambassador for Gordon Ramsay at the Cheap Sally Party during BlogHER ’11. That is where I, and other lucky attendees, got our first peek at the new collection. I was smitten with the sleek stainless steel small appliances and will have the awesome food chopper and the panini grill in my collection soon!!!

Here I am with my New Chef’s Knife…

This thing cut like a dream. It is well weighted and fits my had perfectly. I chopped shallots, mushrooms, garlic and sage in a few minutes for the following recipe…

Turkey & Porcini Sliders with Cranberry Goat Cheese

Recipes: All attendees of the Cheap Sally Party received a flash drive with recipes from Gordon Ramsay. If you were at the party and haven’t checked out your drive, you can check out these Gordon Ramsay Kmart exclusive recipes…they are awesome.

Oh My Gosh…these little burgers are amazing. Even though there are several ingredients, they are quite easy to prepare. Really; from fridge to mouth is less than 45 minutes…30 if you are fast with a knife like Gordon in the video above!!! I kind of doddled about playing with my new chef’s knives. They make me feel like a real chef!!! That’s worth the cost.

Speaking of cost, I was just going to buy one chef’s knife for $9.99. However, most of the the line is reduced for the launch, plus there was an additional 25% off coupon for any one housewares, bedding, bath, window or rug item in the circular. So I actually was able to purchase both knives for about $1 more than the single knife!!! SCORE 4 ME!!!

The recipe makes 8 sliders.

INGREDIENTS

16 oz ground turkey meat, preferably dark meat
.5 oz dried porcini mushrooms, re-hydrated in white wine or water
1-2 Tbsp cooking oil, preferably canola or grapeseed
1 large shallot, small dice
2 cloves garlic, finely diced
1 ½ Tbsp fresh sage leaves, about 10-15 finely chopped leaves
1 tsp sweet paprika
2 Tbsp olive oil
½ tsp fine sea salt
fresh cracked pepper, to taste

To finish:
8 mini-burger buns, brioche or seeded
8 small leaves of butter leaf lettuce
Crumbled goat cheese
Prepared Cranberry sauce
Whole Grain Mustard (optional)
Mayonnaise (optional)

METHOD

Soak porcini mushrooms in room temperature white wine or warm water until tender, about 20 minutes. Remove mushrooms, squeeze out excess moisture and chop into small bits.

Preheat a small frying pan over medium low heat. Add cooking oil to heat through. Sauté shallots until tender and translucent. Add chopped up porcini mushrooms and sauté about 3 minutes. Add garlic, sage & paprika and sauté about one minute more. In a medium mixing bowl, combine mushroom mixture with turkey meat. Season with salt and pepper and moisten with the olive oil. Continue to stir until well combined.

Divide slider mixture into 8 even portions, form a small ball and press into a pattie. Lay slider patties evenly apart in sauté pan or grill and cook for 4-5 minutes with a touch of olive oil. Open buns and lightly toast in the oven or under a broiler.

my brioche…will share my recipe soon

To finish: if desired, spread the bottom buns with small dollops of mustard and/or mayonnaise. Lay a lettuce leaf on the bottom slices. Place warm sliders over lettuce and top with about a teaspoon of cranberry sauce and sprinkle with about a tablespoon of crumbled goat cheese. Lay top bun over & serve.

This is a great tailgating or homegating recipe!!! There are also recipes for Apple Fritters, Buttermilk Pancakes and Ginger and Orange Chicken Wings.

Coupons: In conjunction with the kickoff, Kmart also offering 25% off any one housewares, bedding, bath, window or rug item at Kmart.com with coupon code HOME25P, valid until 10/8. There’s a printable version on their cool updated website www.kmart.com/home or in the weekly newspaper ad.
